Strong turnout for junior and youth planning session.

Updated: Aug 24

Around 80 junior and youth sailors and their parents gathered at the club on a stormy winter evening this week to hear about what is planned for the Junior Race Squad and the Youth Squad at Worser Bay during the 2024-2025 season.

Commodore Bill Grindell opened the session by explaining the process that had been worked through to establish the WBCC learning programme. Boat & Beach Wise chairperson Dean Stanley then took the group through the purpose, principles, pathways and structures that have been put in place to bring the programme to life.

The group then heard about what was planned for junior and youth sailors across Opti Open + P Class, Starlings, ILCA 6,  Teams Racing, Match Racing and Foiling.

Areas covered included coaching structures, training sessions, the role of parent facilitators and the regattas that will be targeted for the squads to attend as a group.

There was a very positive response to the work the general committee and the trust had completed to get the programme in place for the Junior Race Squad and the Youth Squad, and it looks like it will be a great season ahead.
