New crop of sailors start season in strong numbers

The season has got underway with our newest sailors in Optisquad and Blue Fleet showing up in strong numbers. Up to fifty sailors and similar numbers of parents have been regular attendees at the club on Saturday mornings as they start out on their journey to becoming sailors for life.

WBBC Learning Programme Tumuaki (Prinicpal), Glenn Stanley, says "it is really great to see the strong numbers coming through and starting sailing at Worser Bay this season. Our first few sessions were in great weather but since then it has blown a bit. But that doesn't matter because Optisquad and Blue Fleet is always on!!"

Over the winter break the club has inducted a new group of Tuakana (Coaches & Trainers) into the learning programme. "We are really pleased with how our Tuakana have stepped up to the role and it is great to see them delivering quality learning experiences for our new sailors" said Glenn.

"The Tuakana are finding new and innovative ways to bring these young peope and their families into the Worser Bay whanau. We've seen optis turned into land yachts, a simulator set up to learn the intricacies of tacking inside the Boat & Beach Wise shed and we have even had parents engaged in creating a rainbow flag for the group."
