Harbour Master conducts hazardous waste spillage training at Worser Bay.

Did you know that, in line with international practice, New Zealand has a three-tiered approach to managing all aspects of marine oil spill preparation and response?

Regional councils make up Tier 2. These agencies, and the Greater Wellington Regional Council is no exception, maintain a regional marine oil spill contingency plan for their region. Councils respond to marine oil spills within their regions that exceed the clean-up capability of shore-based industries that have oil transfer sites, offshore installations, pipelines and vessels from which a spill of oil is possible.

As part of their plan Regional Councils hold regular training session and one of these was recently held at Worser Bay using the club as a base. Here are some photos of the training in action, which the Harbour Master said was a great success in a great location!
